Raymarine transducer
Author Last Post

Hi John,

Sounds a bit disappointing after all. Hopefully you can figure it out before too long. The location of mine is different being right at the forward end of the engine room so I am not sure if that will make a difference. According to Raymarine UK my new transducer will come with the correct connector to plug straight into the DSM300 without any splicing required. Fingers crossed on that one. Before mine failed it was working at depths as shallow as 1.5m below the keel so I hope the new one will work the same.

Anyway it will be winter before I have the chance to swap out the transducer and test it. I will keep you posted if I learn anything new.

Best regards Andy

Why not add another transducer? I used an airmar P79 that was on the boat when I got it, it always was reliable. The P79 is mounted inside the hull, epoxied to the hull, filled with oil. The puck threads into the housing from the top. You can pretty much mount it anywhere there is clear bottom. No worries about damage or fairing to futz with. Accurate to about 250'. If you pull the cable up to the helm, you can use it as a spare. I had redundant depth finders and could switch between 3 transducers if needed.
I also had a B744 triducer, replaced 3x, the speed NEVER worked, useless on our configuration of cruising, IMO. Your GPS is a far superior indicator.

Hello Andy,

Thanks for the response and the info.

I have good news and not so good news

Replaced the transducer, which was a battle royale to get out of the faring.

Installed new transducer and used the Airmar junction box to splice old wires to new wires.

Voilà, success, sort of ,albeit shortlived.

Was able to read depth and water temperature in my slip and then it operated correctly for about one hour. No speed results. Then depth started going on and off.

Spoke at length with Dan from Airmar.

He indicated that this particular transducer does not operate well in depth 10 feet or less.

Also indicated that because of the way it is connected to the DSM 300 I will not get speed data.

He was Surprised that we had this transducer as it is more of a fishfinder than a specific depth gauge.

In deep water 20+ ft, the new transducer functions well. As soon as I get to shallow water, it cuts out, which of course is just when I need it most.

He suggested a different transducer.

Also suggested that there is a particular coupler that will allow for speed data.

Of note is that the transducer is also positioned way in the aft so that by the time I get a depth reading, it may be too late to be a benefit.

I am currently evaluating options and not sure what I’m going to do next.

Best of luck to you.

Hi John,

I am having the same issue with my speed, depth and temp on Selene 4020. I have had the DSM300 overhauled without any success and have just ordered a new transducer. Raymarine UK confirmed the same part number as you have listed so I believe you should have the correct part. It will be some time before Vagabond is lifted and the transducer replaced.

Fingers crossed that this will cure the problem!

Good luck with your results.

Best regards Andy

Hello all,

My Depth, Speed, and temp for my Raymarine ST60 tridata doesn’t work.

Working with Raymarine tech support I replaced the DSM300 with one made in Hungary (Evidently the ones made in Mexico failed repeatedly)

This did NOT solve the problem.

I am about to replace the transducer on my 40 foot Archer ocean trawler.

This appears to be the correct item and I want to make sure it will fit.

Thanks in advance for all help
