Sea Strainer Manufacturer

It sure seems like we should be able to get Selene Yachts America’s to help. They have been very good in getting other challenging items from Jet Tern

Hi Mark

We have recently been down the track of sourcing replacement strainers.

The manufacturer is Taiwanese I believe.

Their name is Xiang Yi International Ltd, and this is their website:

It looks like they make the strainers and the hatches used on most Selenes.

I have tried contacting their factory directly but they have been reluctant to respond.

Instead, I found a few Chinese suppliers on AliExpress that have the strainers.

Of these, the best of these seems to be FTPB Marine:

The design of the strainers that are currently available has been changed from the original design used on most of our earlier boats. The newer design is better and more robust but is dimensionally a little different. This means that the new strainer baskets will not fit into the old housings (at least I found them to be about 2 mm larger in diameter).

So far I have replaced one complete strainer assembly and will eventually change out all of them on Kianda. The person I dealt with in FTPB marine is Nancy. She was also helpful in locating some handle assemblies for the forward hatch (also made by Xiang Yi in Taiwan).

I'd be interested to find out if others have success in procuring more of these strainers.

Cheers

Howdy Stranger,

Why did you replace A/C strainer and what size did you choose?

Replacing all 3 strainers at the same time is cost prohibitive now as I’m wrestling with a battery issue and planning on a new inverter bank with LiFePo4 that Ben recommended. (Ben Stein).

So many boat jobs, so little free time for boat work……….. priorities, priorities.

When do you depart Jax for Warmer Waters?

I now have 2 gifts for you.

Please give my regards to C.J.

We had the same problem sourcing strainer baskets so I replaced my AC strainer with a Groco and purchased a cap that includes a garden hose fitting. It may be easier for you to add a tee fitting with a setup that accepts a garden hose. We were considering that before I decided to replace the entire strainer.

John:

These come from a Chinese manufacturer and are difficult to get parts for in the US. THe most common request (you'll find several such requests in the forum archives) are for baskets for the strainers. People have usually ended up having to have them fabricated locally. Knowing this was an issue, I ordered a couple of spare baskets for each of the three sizes of strainer on my 60. Because I have spares, none of the originals have failed. :-)

Were you hoping to get covers/lids that were already setup with a pipe-thread port in the lid?
I suspect you'll either have to simply modify the lids you have or change out the strainers for a US-made strainer that you can more readily get parts for.

Does anyone know what brand of Sea Strainers are on the 2005 Archer 40’ Ocean Trawlers?

No labels or ID on the units themselves.

Pics of the top covers attached to help ID.

Looking to get covers that will allow easy Barnacle Buster flushing of A/C, Main, and Genny.

Thanks in advance for your help
