I LOVE that parking lot!!!

Jack

Jack you welcome waiting for you on Gustavia's trailer park 😉😎

We all should have brought up the drain issue at the East Coast rendezvous when Selene asked what should they change!

Good morning Hugues -

Jack here from Virginia.  We are enjoying fall on the Chesapeake Bay and flying to Trinidad December 2 or 3 to begin cruising again.  Let me know if you want me to pack anything to bring for you from the USA.  I have a "Selene Life" book for you from the Selene Rendezvous in Baltimore last month and will bring it to St. Barth.

On our boat Shangdi-La, a 53, the drain functions as Corey described, through a basic starboard grate into a very small hole in the bottom of the anchor locker that clogs easily, and then by gravity into a T and overboard through a small above waterline drain,  To compound the problem, on the bow pulpit of a 53 any mud or sand is caught in a captive area toward the front of the pulpit to prevent it from running onto the deck and is washed through a small drain on the surface of the pulpit into the chain locker, guaranteeing a blockage, especially if boating at a location like the Chesapeake Bay where the bottom is usually muddy.

I have been attempting to design and implement drains on the bow pulpit which drain right through the pulpit and out the bottom of the pulpit with SS tubes to keep the water off the hull to avoid dirty streaks down the hull.  I have designed it but have not found anyone to fabricate it yet.  Maybe you know someone in Saint Barth who has a boatyard who could accomplish that - OH WAIT!!  You own a boatyard in Saint Barth.  Maybe you can do it!

Hope to see you soon.

Best - Jack and Terry

I consider it a design “opportunity for improvement” on 53. They drain out to a tiny hose and run aft to the forward berth hanging locker where they join to the deck drain hose and out a through hull. It clogs easily which is why we spend so much time pressure washing the chain as it comes up

On my 57 the drain is as Mark described.  The drain hole is about 16mm in diameter.  Shells and leaves plug the hole mostly requiring annual cleaning.

Hi Hugues:

My Selene 60 (2008) has a reasonable size drain in the floor, but it is plumbed directly overboard. It does not go to a sump with a pump as you describe. I have had to clean it out occasionally when it gets too much mud and debris and doesn't drain properly, but for the most part, it works totally fine.

Hello,

Don't find the topic we did on this problem.

On 62-15 chain locker drain going on bow bilge by tiny grig and after pump overboard by bilge pump.

Very strand idea 95% of the boat I know have chain locker drain strait overboard.

Why Selene doing that ?

DO they did that on all model ?

Do they still doing that on new build ?

Today I did 8mm side hole to make drain test

Working perfect my plan is to drill 30mm hole and put stainless steel pipe with sikaflex and but stainless steel scoop on side haul and delete original drain going on bilge.

Give me you moment and experience on those drain
