Hello all,

Wahini’s Bight has the bow washdown supplied by water from the fresh water tank. Has anyone done a conversion to have the bow washdown supplied by raw water? We love anchoring and hate using our water up washing down the muddy anchor.

I’m thinking of installing a Groco wash down pump teed into the Air Conditioning thru-hole.

I’m sure I can get the proper power supply run to that location however my concern is running the water hose up forward and connecting to the existing water pipe.

Any suggestions or ideas gratefully appreciated.

2005 Archer 40-12

I faced a similar issue. I located the pump forward under the main cabin sole. Utilized a thru hull that was previously holding tank pump out, used a 3/4" strainer and reduced adapter ell. I installed a Johnson washdown pump and ran a new line to the bow and installed a 2nd quick connect. I converted the existing freshwater connection to use a 2nd Johnson washdown pump connected to the freshwater tank. That line was also fitted with a 3 way valve that enabled that pump to be diverted to the domestic piping as a backup. Used it twice, it was a huge convenience. With dual quick connects on the bow, it was easy to simply reconnect the hose to either outlet. Used the seawater washdown to clean the anchor with unlimited water supply, then switched to fresh water for a rinse. We did a lot of anchoring, and the setup worked perfectly for 10 yrs of cruising. The Johnson pumps provided excellent pressure. I also installed a freshwater quick connect in the cockpit, it was a huge plus for rinsing the dogs and also people after swimming and for fishing cleanup. The freshwater washdown pump was installed by the tanks which in the early hulls were located fwd in the lazarette.
