MINI-RENDEZVOUS - Choices, choices - Need vote ASA...
Author Last Post

Hi Jack.

I did not write any article about your Rendezvous. I was not there and don’t have any knowledge to be able to write anything about it. It was someone else. Perhaps Cindy Covington, since she is in charge of the news on the website.

Glad you survived China and Hong Kong, and hope the witches didn’t cast any bad spells as they flew by. 😉

Jenni

Hi Jenni -

I attempted to send a personal email to you but it ended up here. So, I deleted it and will try again. Please disregard if viewed on the Owners’ Forum.

Best regards - Jack

Jack Burgess, Selene 5388 Shangri-La

Hi Jenni -

Jack here from Hotel Shangri-La in Hong Kong after a wonderful visit to the yard for four days to participate in the build of OE 6047, our new Selene, soon to be christened Shangri-La II.  Typhoon Wipha slowed us down a bit, but we plodded and slogged through and it was a great experience.  I will be back in December to continue.  The Selene Americas Team led by Wayne who are here in China and Howard and his team at the yard were awesome.

Regarding our Rendezvous, it did not turn it to be much of a "mini" as we had eight Selenes attend, some folks visit by car and several others who wanted to come but weather, which was finally perfect, was a concern initially and others had boats in yards longer than expected (imagine that!).  The name tags and theme and reference in my opinion was and should be:  Summer of '25, Rendezvous on the Saint Mary's in Maryland and Yeocomico in Virginia.

Everyone who attended and some who missed it have asked for a repeat next year and Terry and I are all in.  I have booked it with SMCM and Chesapeake Orchestra in Maryland and Olverson's Marina in Virginia already for the weekend following Independence Day July '26.  The theme will be: Summer of '26, Rendezvous on the Saint Mary's in Maryland and Yeocomico in Virginia.  There is room for many more folks and boats and all are welcome.  We all have room on our boats for guests and the Marina has a farm house with three or four rooms for overflow at a whopping $60 per room per night.  Our house with three bedrooms is ten minutes away by fast tender or skiff.  So y'all come on down!  Enjoy a little southern countrified hospitality.

Best Regards - Jack, Shangri-La 5388 and Shangri-La II 6047

Hi all who attended and joined in the fun. Now that your mini rendezvous is over, I would like to post photos of your gathering and adventure in a Photo Album on the forum. You can include titles and captions for your photos if you like.

Please send your photos to me at jjonelson@duck.com

Jack – do you have a title for mini rendezvous for the album?

Cheers, Jenni,

Treasurer and photo album manager

FAIR WARNING!

The people have spoken and the Summer of ‘25 Rendezvous is on track to be off the tracks.

For those who dare, we will assemble at Horseshoe Bend on the Saint Mary’s River on Friday, invade the Green of SMCM at 5:00 p.m. (use the dock as they are expecting us), enjoy our picnics or the fare offered by the natives (lots of vendors), thrill to the performance by the Chesapeake Orchestra from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., and then retreat to our vessels for the night.

Saturday morning (9:00 - 9:30 a.m.?) we will up anchor and cruise to Olverson’s Lodge Creek Marina on the Yeocomico River in Virginia (14nm) for our victory celebration, having conquered the Marylanders at St. Mary’s.

The weekend will be challenging - Lounging, napping, tanning, swimming, walking, talking, biking, eating, drinking, etc. Two competitive physical challenges, entirely mandatory, wiil be included in the planned activities. Refunds of 0% of all prepaid fees are available to those unwilling to participate. Liability releases have already been signed for you based on your status as boat owners willing to try anything once. The challenges can come at any time, except for dinner. If you have not yet bulked up, steel yourselves. A short prep course for such activities is available at WWW.whattheheck.com.

I have heard from enough folks by phone, text, email and on the Forum. We are in GO, GO, GO MODE and ON for this weekend. Hoping Mother Nature is kind to us.

The weather seems to be starting to cooperate and the forecast doesn't include any chance of thunderstorms on Friday for the concert. All in all, it's looking like a typical Chesapeake summer forecast!

Kallisto is a "Go".

Hi Corey, I don't know how I missed your text.  It was a busy time with family at the boat for the 4th.  We love CYC, people are very friendly, it's a great location, and lots to do.  I'll be in touch.

Richard

Hey Richard, you are at our “Home Port”. We liked it so much several years ago that we joined and are active members. I sent you a text last week to the phone nbr listed in your Selene Owner profile.

Hi Jack,
We stopped at Capital Yacht Club in DC for the 4th and extended it for all of July because we like it here so much.  So, unfortunately, we won't be able to make either dates.

I have same thoughts as Phil. Let go for this weekend. The hourly prediction is not bad. I’m sure there will be some rain but hopefully not a washout.

Hi Jack,

Annette & I on Asante are still good for this weekend, we cannot make the 25th weekend. Weather looks mixed but NOAA forecast for the Bay looks pretty good for transits. Believe we have an indoor space in the evenings as needed. Potentially you could have similar weather on the 25th-28th as you get deeper into Hurricane season.

We have our waterproofs at the ready!.

Brgds
Phil

We all see the same forecast for this week and weekend. Yesterday was beautiful here on the Potomac and I watched a beautiful sunrise from our hot tub on our dock today. The sky is cloudless now. But nothing is certain, especially the weather. So . . .

We can either go forward with our plans for this weekend or reschedule without problem for July 25 - 28, the last weekend the Chesapeake Orchestra will perform at SMCM this season. The event will definitely be cancelled either date if thunder and lightning occur. Some checks have been received but none deposited. A Venmo payment or two has been received. The entertainment for Saturday needs to be confirmed or rescheduled promptly. The Marina is OK with any choice we make.

For all who have indicated interest and anyone who wants to join in, please cast your vote for this weekend or July 25 - 28 by 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, July 9. Terry and I are available either weekend and we will cruise over and watch the Orchestra perform Friday evening, weather permitting, but we are just a few miles away. A bonus (or drawback?) for rescheduling to July 25-28 - We will be back from our Selene Yard visit in China and I can give a presentation with photos regarding the build of Selene Ocean Explorer 6047.

Please respond with your preference ASAP and by 10:00 a.m. tomorrow at the latest and majority will rule. You can respond here or to me personally at cell (703) 609-2033 or email jacktburgess@gmail.com.
