Selene 54
Author Last Post
In the last Three years I have seen a 35 percent plus uptick in many New Build Retail prices.

Add the uncertainty of tariffs and Jacks 53 is a fair value.

My previous boat was a Nordhavn 52

I purchased my Selene 59/104 as an interim Boat while considering a new Nordhavn build.

That was six years ago.

Selene is absolutely fantastic

I am still in love

Jack,

I'm glad we found common ground on the boats!

Felix comes from my 24 year old cat.  Felix has done his share of boating, but most of all he's been an awesome friend.  I named the boat to honor him.

I will check out Felix the artist.

Correction about the current location of Felix (Felix Christopher) the artist. He is in DeShais (pronounced Day Hay), Guadeloupe on the west coast. This is an awesome anchorage, one of our favorites in the EC, that was and is the setting for BBC series “Murder In Paradise” (12 plus seasons). You can see an interview of Felix on YouTube by searching DeShais, Guadeloupe Felix Christopher. Shows his personality and his art hanging on the walls, tables, his car, etc. We have some of his work, including a monogrammed bag he did for Terry (B’day gift). I will post some photos of bag and us with Felix as attachment.

John -

While we may agree to disagree on which vessel is top of the heap, I am certain they are both simply spectacular.

And I do like the name Felix and hope it is as special to you as Shangri-La is to Terry and me. I won’t go into details here, but suffice to say that it has significant meaning.

I will share with you a personal bit - Felix is the name of one of my favorite artists in the Caribbean. Terry and I know Felix, have bought from him, and will be commissioning him to paint two original pieces to hang on the walls of Shangri-La II. He lived in Dominica until his house, still on the beach when we visited and anchored there early this year, was demolished by a hurricane a few years ago. He is now primarily in Terre de Haute, Guadeloupe, where he displays his art in a few galleries and in an alley on the Main Street of Le Bourg, the main town and ferry port. He has a website you can find by googling his name and the above locations. I commend his talent.

Best - Jack, Shangri-La

Dear SOG,

While I'm hopefull for Jack selling his 53 for the price quoted, I did initially think it was a healthy price.  However, after thinking about it, he could have it priced low.  While I've not seen his boat,  if it shows as he states, it could be a good buy.  I share this based on comparing other boats I've owned, and considered buying, to Selenes.

I have owned five boats since 2006: Ocean Alexander 48, Nordhavn 60, Nordhavn 63, Krogen Express 52, and now a Selene 53.  My Selene is my favorite of all these boats and, other than the OA, my Selene cost the least.  I do remember when Selene had a less than stellar reputation for quality; perhaps this is still impacting pricing.  Nevertheless,  I have gotten pretty deep into the build of my 53 and I don't see quality as an issue.  As we all know, all boats have problems and things we wish were different.  Still,  Selene has built a very attractive sea going vessel.

So Jack, good luck getting your price, and with a buyer who will take good care of her.

PS> one edit suggested for your listing: Felix is the best ever Selene 53.

I am interested in a Selene 54 if anyone knows of one potentially for sale.

My wife Kathy and I own Full Circle, a 2013 deep hull Selene docked in Annapolis MD. To my knowledge there are only two or maybe three deep hull Selene 54’s in the US. After four years of ownership, we are ready for the next chapter and plan to sell Full Circle and travel extensively in and outside of the US. The Cummins engine has 1,448 hours, you can view two walkthrough videos of Full Circle posted on YouTube www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFS4Gu6ihA0 and www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bPze2Nycno . Please reach out to me with questions and/or are interested in seeing her in person. The price for Full Circle is $1,195,000.

See my recent post regarding Selene 5388 which is now officially for sale. The vessel is without a doubt the most complete, capable, safety sure, refitted Selene 53, 54 or 55 to EVER come on the resale market. We just completed a three year refitting of the vessel, $250,000 USD value, which was always maintained to the highest standards and with an open checkbook. Within just the last 3 weeks, final touches costing over $20,000 were performed at Washburn’s Boat yard in Solomons, Maryland. We refitted the vessel to make her our “forever” boat and then decided to step up to a brand new Selene Ocean Explorer 60 which is being delivered in December 2025. 5388 is ready to cross any ocean today. She is simply “all there” and “everything.” If you only want the very best, and want it soon, this opportunity is indeed rare and for the discriminating yachtsperson. Since posting my notice approximately one week ago I have had five (5) serious inquiries. Get her while she is hot!

We leave for the yard in China tomorrow to inspect our new vessel in build. If you would like to schedule a visit to tour and test ride 5388, please contact me by phone, text or email and we will schedule something after my return from the yard on July 24. If you are not local to my area and can not travel easily, we can schedule a video call to show you this special vessel.
