Congrats BIG BOY!!!

Joe - Corey (AKA Bayliner Boy) gets a Gold Star for being pitch man of the year. I am probably gonna’ have to buy him more than one drink for this.

Greg - Delivery of Shangri-La 6047 is a moving target, but we are thinking April / May time frame. I think that is likely going to conflict with your crossing, so I can be with you in spirit (or via Starlink) only I expect.

Richard - Taking delivery in the PNW is special for so many reasons - The entire region will be our oyster on our own new boat; Commissioning in the PNW with Dylan and all of his expertise are available and valuable; The ride south, as you note, is with following seas and weather generally; A bucket list destination for us is Ecuador so that will happen we hope; Another is maybe the Galapagos, then through the Path Between the Seas to the Western Caribbean where more adventure awaits. You are right - time and good health are our most precious resources. Our motto - DO IT NOW!

We may be the first East Coast Selene to see SLII. You may not know, but Kelly and I are from Laguna Beach, SoCal. We were looking for a Selene on the Best, er, West Coast but didn't find one suitable. Jeff Merrill, being the good salesperson he is, suggested we buy one on the East Coast, cruise there then take it to the West Coast. In 2026 we plan to head through the Panama Canal to the West Coast. Untethered may be the first Selene to attend both East and West Coast Rendezvous.

We only intended to cruise a couple years up and down the coast, but its now been 4.5 years and 17+k nm. The people we've met, the Bahamas, Maine and all the little towns in between have been intoxicating. But Father Time waits for no one, and there is much more to see. So after a fresh coat of paint in Guatamala, we're headed through the ditch and up the coast after a stop in Costa Rica that I promised Kelly, and some fishing in the Gulf of California.

You may find the PNW equally intoxicating. I bought a Nordic Tug there and cruised a while before shipping it to CA. It's beautiful, and the fishing is even better than the East Coast.

You'll have it easier heading south than us heading north. The trip from CA to Panama is called the Baja Haha. From Panama to CA it's the Baja Bash. The predominate wind and current runs down the Baha Peninsula.

I'm jealous about your new 60. But Untethered is the devil we know, and it fits like an old pair of shoes. She's been a good boat and we've tried to make her even better.

Unless you are ready to tackle the Big “U” (7,000 plus miles) or want to fly and cruise and ride (Shout Out to SMOG) on the left coast, it will be a minute or 525,600 x 1 or 2 or 3 before Shangri-La 6047 gets over here to the civilized and easily accessible East Coast for a rendezvous. However, we are available to serve as guest boat boy and girl, cooks and bartenders on East Coast boats while we explore over yonder beginning Spring 2026. We also welcome guests on board the New Age Shangri-La while doing that region, so pack the cigars and old scotch and travel. Occasionally we will fly back to our place on the NN of VA for some Rivah’ time, especially when the fish are bitin’, so you sort of know where we might be when. Gotta keep the toys here running so we can do our thing when back home (completely contrary to my current situation as everything is chaos, but there is hope. Tomorrow is another day.).

We are hoping, after Terry’s recovery and our road trip cross country to receive 6047 in the PNW, to be back in early to mid July 2026 to host or at least attend the upstart St. Mary’s and Yeocomico Rendezvous, which we hosted this past summer, with other patrons (maybe you). We have our place here on the Rivah’, a center console and a little sailboat, so we hope to be involved if the schedule allows. The new owners of Selene 5388 (best 53 in the fleet) want to get in with the crowd. So stay tuned!

Thanks for all the kind words. Just got back from my final evening on board Shangri-La. Enjoyed the sunset and clear and crisp weather with some boating buddies (accompanied by a now near empty bottle of Mount Gay and a little tonic and lime). Terry was hanging by the fireplace at our place on the rivah’ today resting her knees between PT exercises - tomorrow we go for her first post-op visit and removal of 100 plus sutures - that is after handing over the keys to SL around 9:00 a.m. of course. Maybe one last cup of coffee on board. Then, well whatever comes next . . . We are ready and waiting!

It's sad saying goodbye to a boat that we rely on to keep us alive. It's more than a "thing" it's got a personality. It's kept us secure in bad weather, and taken us to far off places.

After 15 years of wonderful times, today is our last day of ownership of Selene 5388 Shangri-La. What a wonderful ride she gave us - northern South America, the entire Eastern Caribbean, the (chilly in the winter) Bahamas, Chesapeake Bay, East Coast of the USA to Maine - so many great memories.

After a less than favorable introduction to Shangri-La at the Annapolis Powerboat Show, the new owners fortunately had a chance to come across Corey Chamness who saved the day and said to them “I like Shangri-La; she has been totally refit; I think you should take a look and decide for yourselves.” They did and they loved the boat. Three visits on board and a sea trial later they were sold. I will be happy to introduce the new owners of 5388 (new name to her announced) when I have permission to do so. You all will love these nice folks. THANK YOU SO MUCH COREY!!!

Shangri-La sold for what is reportedly more than any 53 has ever sold for, seven figures, more than the experts recommended or predicted. My advice to anyone selling a Selene - Only YOU know the real value of your boat; refits matter; market data and statistics are past history we are bound to simply repeat unless we open our minds to the present and the future; the first offer is not necessarily the best offer; stick to your guns and let the chips fall where they may.

Now, we move on to Shangri-La 6047 which will be delivered in the spring to the PNW. We are so excited to take our rented U-Haul truck full of boat stuff, including the motorcycle, across country and finish commissioning the new girl there. Then there is the PNW, San Juan Islands, Inside Passage and Alaska to explore. We can’t wait!
