Need help with Door Parts

Hello All,

I have an issue with a broken part on the starboard door adjacent to the helm station.

2005 40’ Selene Ocean Trawler

There is what appears to be a white plastic ring on the outside of the door latch that has broken. 😡

I’m attaching pictures of the broken parts and also the intact ring on the port door for reference.

I would love to know if this is replaceable and where it can be sourced??

Thanks in advance.

Same thing happened to me. I was unable to find a source, but maybe someone's figured that out in the meantime. I ended up creating one out of Starboard using a friend's Shaper Origin. I imagine there are less convoluted ways of accomplishing the same thing 😊, but we had fun.

Just a thought ... find a thin piece of Starboard

Cut a small hole to match ID of what you need then cut a bigger hole on the same sheet of starboard to cover the OD.

Maybe cut the bigger hole first?

Greg,

Sounds like a good plan.

Mike,

Thanks for the reply.

What’s a Shaper Origin??

A Shaper Origin is a brand of computerized router. Like all CNC devices, it's relatively expensive and crazy overkill for this task.

I do a lot with 3-D additive printing at home and believe that'd be an easy part to draw-up on a CAD program and print out on a 3-D printer. You'd need to use a material that is UV-resistant (e.g., nylon), but I think it would be easy to build and should have the strength necessary for that application. There are a lot of 3-D printing enthusists around, so shouldn't be too hard to get made.

There are also a lot of CNC machining enthusiasts out there as well that could make the part, but they may be a bit harder to find.

3D printing is the way. I have no clue how to design anything in CAD but as Steve said lots of people are enthusiasts so should be doable.

To me, it looks like an easy metal lathe project. Get a piece of round stock, bore it, shape the nice curve on the outside, and part it off. Probably make a handful while you are tooled up. Not sure what material would be best but 10 minutes on Google would probably solve that question.

In other words, if you walked into a machine shop with your piece of round stock from Amazon and your broken original, it would be $X for 1, and probably $X + $5 for 10 of them.

Might try Avan Tec Marine web store or email them - The had parts for my Trioving LockSets including a Rosette Isolator which looks close to the part in your photos.
