Today I coordinated with TDM Custom Embroidery the production of prototype items for SMOG members. The initial run will include: 12” and 4” patches of both types, fabric backing and full embroidery, hats (full fabric with fabric strap and metal clasp rather than partial mesh and plastic), and long and short sleeve moisture wicking T-shirts with a large color logo on back and small color logo on chest (printed, not embroidered). We plan to meet next week for me to personally examine the products and try the prototypes on for fit (2XL in my case). Once we approve the prototypes the vendor will have additional attire and items available for us, including hoodies, polos, backpacks, stickers and almost anything else we want. They can outsource glassware, thermos containers, etc.

Individual purchases can be made through me initially if desired, but the vendor has offered to set up a link on their website dedicated to SMOG which allows folks to make purchases directly, allowing me to step out of the loop and simplify transactions. I can be a clearinghouse for folks in foreign destinations such as China and the Philippines as needed, but would prefer to have all US transactions go through the website when the link is set up. It is expected that full production will occur around May 15, with the link being immediately available, so stay tuned for my review of the prototypes I will see next week. If the attire is flattering, I may even model it for the Gang and post photos.

Gang -

Giving it a shot at attaching here the attachments forwarded to me by the vendor with descriptions of attire. I have a couple of questions in to the vendor based on inquiries I have already had. Stay tuned - I may need help gathering the info, collecting money and making arrangements with the vendor to supply what we want and how best to pay for it.

Volunteers to collect and refine our order so that it is accurate and easily communicated to the vendor wanted! If we need to pay as a group I can set up a Venmo spreadsheet and process payment with one check maybe. But I have a couple of very busy weeks ahead of me right now. If we could arrange to have the items shipped to the individual purchasers that would save us a lot of work.

I posted on the Selene owners’ site about our decision to welcome E-bike Seleners into the Gang based on your positive feedback regarding that idea. As the PNW Rendezvous is underway, we may get some traction from having that group together and chatting up all things Selene.

Gang -

I have received pricing information from TDM Custom Embroidery. See email content below:

(Begin quote) Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Please see below for general price-points. I will include design costs (one-time) on separate lines.

Design cost (one-time):

4-inch patch - $25

12-inch patch - $50

Left chest/right chest/hat - $25

Cost per patch (sew-on):

4-inch patch fully stitched - $18

4-inch patch with fabric background - $15

12-inch patch fully stitched - $110

12-inch patch with fabric background - $75

Cost per polo embroidered:

$22/each polo (includes polo and stitch - see attached spec sheets for options)

Cost per hoodie embroidered:

$32/each hoodie for L/R chest embroidery size (see attached spec sheet)

Cost per embroidered hat:

$18-22/each depending on hat choice (see attached spec sheet for favorite trucker style with sizes for larger heads)

Cost per print:

L/R size: $6 + garment

Back: $12 + garment (End quote)

There are lots of options for garments. This is a starting point. I think it provides what we need to place an initial order.

Regarding the patches, they are individually custom made by hand with in-house machines that runs off a CAD program once the information is uploaded into the machine. Each patch is individually produced by one of the craftswomen. The fully stitched versus fabric background distinction may or may not be important if the fabric background is gray and the water can be fully stitched in blue and yacht in white. I could order one of each as a test to see how they look. Or folks can place orders now based on personal preference. If we operate as a group they may be able to produce a quantity of items and order a quantity of shirts at one time and get this project really moving. Riding season is here so I want my patches and shirts YESTERDAY!

I am going to announce today on the Selene Owners’ Website the decision of the FF to invite all E-bikers into the Gang. That will certainly broaden our reach and give the Gang some enhanced clout, enabling us to be a presence at Rendezvous events., etc.

Please let me know what you riders think.

Thanks - J

Hi Jack,

All of your comments make sense to me.

Have not had any responses from the FF of SMOG to my last post. I should receive pricing today from TDM Custom Embroidery for various items. I will share that on receipt with the Gang. Since we are a small group the pricing will not vary with count so you can hold off on telling me exactly what you want for now.

I have a proposal for the FF. We previously discussed (and generally approved) opening SMOG to owners with E-bikes on their Selenes and I think that is a great idea to broaden our reach and expand the Gang. Since the PNW Rendezvous is occurring right now, I would like to announce later today on the regular forums the expansion of SMOG to include owners with E-bikes on their Selenes since a lot of folks are gathered for the Rendezvous this week. I can, in the same post, announce our relationship with TDM Custom Embroidery and describe available patches, hats, garments, etc. This may jump start our membership drive and give us some momentum. It is definitely time to cruise and ride the seven seas, so your responses are important.

Please let me know what you think.

I am working with TDM Custom Embroidery (TDMcustom.com), a small woman owned business located in Chesapeake, VA, to provide a quote for us for 12” and 4” full color embroidered patches (to be sewn onto vests, jackets, etc.), ball cap type hats with a modified logo, long and short sleeved wicking fabric T-shirts and cotton / polyester short sleeved polos.

The ladies at TDM Custom do the color embroidery in house and are excited about the project. They outsource the T-shirts to the best provider they could find which uses bigger equipment than will fit in their small shop. The hats are done in house, but our logo is too busy for all of the printing to show up on a 2.5” patch, so will be modified to probably show only the yacht, cycle, water, lightning bolts and “SMOG” displayed.

To get the quote finalized I need to have an estimate from all members as to what you want: 12” patches, 4” patches, LS T’s and sizes, SS T’s and sizes, hats and polo shirts. I have two riding jackets and a jean vest that need 12” patches and I may want one to frame and display on Shangri-La. Don’t forget to ask your lady what she wants - the colors might best be seen on her back!

LMK ASAP please. Megan, one of the owners, tells me they are ready to get to work once we have some numbers for her. I will determine what their payment arrangements are and advise.

Roll on - Easy Ridin’ jack
