SMOG (Selene Motorcycle Owners Gang)

SMOG Invades Hong Kong!

Finally got a day off! The Selene Team from the shipyard had been working me hard! Nico, Mr. Lu, Mr. Yang, Mr. Fang, Mr. Gao and I worked nonstop Monday through Wednesday. Today, Terry and I took the day off and took a ferry from Discovery Bay over to nearby Peng Chau Island, a beautiful nature preserve and fishing village where lots of folks live who commute by ferry to DB or Hong Kong for work.

Highlights were a nice lunch at Ho Ho Chicken, where they serve delicious Japanese Chicken in Pineapple Bun and ham and egg sandwiches, with Yin Yang (milk, tea and coffee over ice) - our bill was a whopping $12 USD - one can’t eat at McDonalds in the US for that. Then a long walk up the Islands Nature Heritage Trail. Goal was the panoramic view from Finger Hill. Terry and her new knees made it all the way except for the last 500 feet of climbing, which was 750 concrete eight inch steps to the top. She made the right decision - I was breathing hard and sweating when I got there. But the view was beautiful. Then to the Pagoda Garden near where I had left Terry. We walked back down to town where we shopped a bit, walked around the waterfront, did the best SMOG rider impression I could manage, and saw lots of bicycles the residents had left at the ferry pier to go to work for the day.

Finally a rest on the town pier, where we caught the ferry back to Lantau Yacht Club. Back on board, a glass of wine, some dinner and we started watching East of Eden. Steinbeck was always a favorite of mine. Looks like a keeper so we will binge!

A few photos from today are attached. And no, I did not eat one of the fishes hanging from a coat hanger.

OK, we are here in HK working on the new girl and the Scrambler is in a warehouse scheduled to be delivered 10/28 when I will load her onto Shangri-La to pretty this girl up. I will post an update on that event, reporting on lifting gear, chocks, straps for retention on deck, etc. Then no real big bike riding until the Philippines. Restrictions here are too severe for me to get on the road close by. But Howard says we will ride something somewhere and I will post what I can. All adventures will be shared.

So BROTHERS and SISTERS, how about sharing your adventures and some photos or videos. You got new gear - model it! Step up and show us what you do when you get the urge for stepping out and throwing a leg over. I know I am not the only one who really rides. Show us what you got!

Well, sort of. Here at Discovery Bay, a gorgeous Eco-friendly development of 25,000 or so residents living, working, sending their kids to schools, worshipping, beaching, walking and just living life, no ICE powered private vehicles are permitted. So - You can’t always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, You just might find, you get what you NEEEEED! Terry and me riding two up, with me doing the hard rickshaw work as usual.

Lantau Yacht Club here at Discovery Bay is where Shangri-La 6047 was delivered to us from the shipyard a couple days ago. We have worked hard getting her ready to receive the contents of our ocean crossing container, all of which will be delivered over the next several days. Tomorrow is household goods, Tuesday is tools, fishing and diving gear including air compressor and six tanks, then over the next few days we take on the tender, Triumph Scrambler, chocks for both, and ground tackle. It is in the 90’s and humid here, so there WILL be sweat.

Check out the photos of us two up on my rickshaw and then standing by the pretty new girl in town. She is one heck of a ride!
